If you're ready to make a change, I am here to Help YOU
become the person you want to be!
I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Kansas and a Licensed Professional Counselor in Missouri.
I help individuals:
My goal is to help you live an empowered, authentic, and fulfilling life.
I have been helping people for over ten years and bring a wide variety of knowledge and experience to the helping profession. I have worked in a wide range of therapeutic settings including inpatient psychiatric hospitalization and residential facilities, intensive outpatient care, faith-based counseling agency and private practice. I work with clients affected by all types of adversity, depression, anxiety, substance use, trauma, divorce, blended families, and relationship challenges.
Often people ask “what is the difference between therapy and coaching? Therapy and counseling are interchangeable. You will hear it called both. Therapy/counseling focuses on mental health concerns and emotional healing. A mental health assessment is completed, and a diagnosis is established. After the diagnosis is determined, a mental health treatment plan is created with the goal of reducing or eliminating the mental health concern.
Therapy/counseling often focuses on processing past events to assist with restoring the client to a healthy level of functioning. The therapist typically leads the process and is clinically trained to treat the disorder.
Coaching is quite different. It doesn’t focus on problems or symptoms. Coaching is present and future focused. The past may be explored if it will help with understanding the individual’s current life. In coaching, the client focuses on identifying and achieving goals in various areas of life. The coach is viewed as a collaborator, helping to identify where the individual is, where he or she wants to be, and how to get there.
I offer a variety of coaching:
**Please note, if you are seeking coaching, there will be no mental health assessment, diagnosis or treatment plan.
My approach to therapy is eclectic as I believe the approach needs to fit the needs and style of the client. I incorporate a client centered approach as clients are the experts of their lives and can determine their direction. I also integrate a strengths-based, solutions-focused style as I focus on solutions, not just problems.
Most importantly, I incorporate Christian Counseling concepts recognizing the empowerment and strength that comes from calling upon the mighty name of Jesus. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) concepts as I assist clients in exploring the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to discover unhelpful patterns leading to negative emotions and self-destructive behaviors.
I help clients with developing self-management skills using Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which includes mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and emotion regulation with the goal of moving them toward a life where they can experience joy and freedom.
Ready for something different? Counseling or coaching might be the answer. Reach out to learn how counseling or coaching can help.
